(Following Interview ②) Actor Ryu Kyung-soo talked about his synergy with Yoo Hae-jin.

On the 18th, an interview with actor Ryu Kyung-soo for the film “YADANG: The Snitch” took place at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.

The crime action film “YADANG: The Snitch” (directed by Hwang Byeong-kuk, provided/distributed by Plus M Entertainment) features a broker designing the drug trade in South Korea, a “prosecutor” aiming for higher grounds, and a “detective” investing everything in eradicating drug crimes, all intertwining with different objectives.

Ryu Kyung-soo, who plays the role of “Jo Hoon,” the son of a presidential candidate and a ruthless villain, reflected on the acting behind the scenes, stating, “I thought Jo Hoon needed to be psychologically flexible as well. What I was particularly concerned about was the idea that if you pay attention to the atmosphere, it’s over for this character. I realized I should never be mindful of anyone’s gaze.”

He noted, “There’s a saying that ‘I need to act in a way that eats up the opponent,’ but I don’t do that. I feel like if I think that way, I’m losing. It’s not about the character; it’s about overcoming the actor, which I find to be a negative approach.”

He added, “However, I think about how I can mix well. Especially, Jo Hoon needs to jump here and there. I really shouldn’t pay attention to others, so I often had the mindset of ‘What do I care?’ I kept thinking about that.”

He also shared his collaboration with Yoo Hae-jin, saying, “He is a truly outstanding actor, a senior, so how could I not be nervous? So, I constantly practiced mind control, saying ‘What do I care,’ while doing it.” He smiled and added, “This character is originally someone who knows only himself. However, the senior really helped me a lot. He made it comfortable for me. There was no pressure. He is very fun, and I learned a lot from Yoo Hae-jin.”

He then said, “As I practiced mind control, thinking that ‘this character should not be mindful of others,’ when the camera started rolling, I blurted out an unexpected line. But senior Yoo Hae-jin adapted to that and acted alongside it. That scene is where Jo Hoon said to Gu Kwan-hee (played by Yoo Hae-jin), ‘I’ll give you a minute.’ I thought to myself, ‘He is really flexible.’”

He also shared his thoughts on Yoo Hae-jin’s signature “dad jokes.” Ryu Kyung-soo remarked, “Honestly, dad jokes can be quite divisive, but it seems to depend on who delivers them. If there’s a certain standard, above that, it’s a transcendent level of dad joke. A joke that you would never think of.”
