Kian’s Bizarre B&B, a Netflix original variety show, is catching attention as 'Dokdo' is introduced to the world.
Released on the 8th, 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B' immediately entered the global TOP 10 series (non-English) in 6th place, the only variety show in that institutional sector. 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B' also made it to the TOP 10 in six countries, including Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines, recording a view count of 2,000,000 (calculated by dividing total viewing time by the total runtime of the show), thereby showcasing the charm of Korean reality variety shows to the world.
Receiving enthusiastic responses both domestically and internationally, the clever subtitles of 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B' have become a hot topic.
Earlier, in episode 6 of 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B,' which was released on the 15th, a father who came with his two sons said on the last day of check-out, "This is probably a view we won't see for a lifetime," as they went sightseeing.
The scenery revealed next was indeed the view of Dokdo. The three people, who arrived after a 1 hour and 30-minute journey from Ulleungdo, embarked on a tour of Dokdo while holding the Korean flag. Boasting clear waters, they caught attention as they shouted "Hooray" for a commemorative photo.
What drew attention here was the 'subtitle notation.' In overseas broadcasts, there are often instances where the East Sea is referred to as the Sea of Japan, or Dokdo is wrongly labeled as Takeshima (the Japanese name for Dokdo), leading to frowns. However, the team behind 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B' not only labeled it as 'DOKDO' in English but also included the Japanese subtitles as 島(ドクト) and "Dokdo(ドクト)."
As this fact spread later through online communities, netizens responded with praise, saying, "This is right," "Netflix did really well," and "This is truly great."
Meanwhile, episodes 7-9 of the new concept guesthouse variety show 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B' will be released on the 22nd (Tuesday) at 4 p.m.
