Actor Kim Soo-hyun corrected misunderstandings regarding the expenses related to the damage compensation lawsuit filed against the bereaved family of the late Kim Sae-ron.
On the 17th, the law firm LKB & Partners, representing Kim Soo-hyun, stated regarding the 12 billion won damage compensation claim against Kim Sae-ron's family that "all expenses have been paid, and an application for an extension of the correction deadline has been made due to the necessity of specifying the defendant's address."
Earlier, Kim Soo-hyun's side was embroiled in allegations of unpaid expenses related to the lawsuit against Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family. In connection with this matter, Kim Soo-hyun faced significant criticism regarding allegations of dating during Kim Sae-ron's minor years. The suspicion that he was not even paying the expenses heightened the criticism. However, this was not true.
The suspicion began on the 2nd, when the 14th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Director General Jeong Ha-jeong) issued a corrective order for fees and delivery costs to Kim Soo-hyun's side. On the 31st of last month, Kim Soo-hyun held a press conference and announced that he would file a damage compensation claim for 12 billion won against Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family and the Garosero Research Institute on YouTube. However, the actual amount filed with the court was 11 billion won. Consequently, the court ordered the correction of the lawsuit amount and directed that the fees and delivery costs be paid according to the correct amount of 12 billion won.
The fee is an expense that must be paid when filing a lawsuit with the court and varies according to the lawsuit amount. Since the lawsuit amount from Kim Soo-hyun's side is 12 billion won, it is known that the fees and expenses amount to approximately 38 million won. Among this, on the 16th, Kim Soo-hyun's side submitted a request for an extension of the correction deadline to the court. This raised suspicions that the extension was to postpone the payment deadline for the fees.
However, in relation to this, Kim Soo-hyun's lawyer told OSEN, "Among the defendants, there is a person reported in the media as a 'fake aunt,' of whom we do not even know the name. Therefore, we filed the lawsuit without being able to specify the address. Generally, it is not a problem to file a lawsuit without knowing the address, but the court issued a corrective order to specify the defendant's address, and hence we submitted a request to extend the correction deadline to specify accurate information."
Additionally, Kim Soo-hyun's lawyer explained, "There are almost no cases where a request for an extension of the correction deadline is not accepted if there are no special problems. Also, we have already filed a criminal lawsuit against the person referred to as 'fake aunt,' and as the investigation progresses, the address can naturally be specified. Therefore, that person will not be removed from the list of defendants."
Recently, Kim Soo-hyun has been facing allegations from the bereaved family of Kim Sae-ron that he dated her during her minor years. The bereaved family disclosed various photos and videos claiming evidence of Kim Soo-hyun's relationship with Kim Sae-ron's minor years through the Garosero Research Institute YouTube channel, sparking controversy. In this process, Kim Soo-hyun's side emphasized that while it was true that he dated Kim Sae-ron, contrary to what was denied last year, the dating period was from when the deceased was an adult, specifically from 2019 to 2020. Kim Soo-hyun expressed his innocence with tears at a press conference and submitted a complaint against the bereaved family of Kim Sae-ron and the Garosero Research Institute for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc., and filed a damage compensation lawsuit for 12 billion won.
