Actor Park Hae-jun conducted an interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 15th. At this meeting, he talked with domestic reporters about the film ‘YADANG: The Snitch’ (directed by Hwang Byeong-guk, provided/distributed by Plus M Entertainment, produced by HYBE Media Corp.).
‘YADANG: The Snitch’ is a crime action film that unfolds as a broker involved in designing a drug market in South Korea, a prosecutor aiming to rise higher, and a detective who stakes everything on eradicating drug crimes intertwine with different motives. In this, Park Hae-jun played the role of detective Oh Sang-jae, who struggles to eradicate drug crimes.
When asked about his thoughts on the film’s release, Park Hae-jun said, “Movies are rare these days,” and expressed an overwhelming sentiment. He particularly noted, “I’m curious and excited about how the audience will watch it.”
Recently, having taken on the role of Yang Kwan-sik in the Netflix original series ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ and amidst intense interest, Park Hae-jun is set to present a new film. He shared, “While it’s nice that the drama is receiving a lot of attention, producing a film right after is somewhat challenging due to the very different genres.”
“It’s also confusing,” he revealed, stating, “I want to maintain the weight of the drama as a character, but the new work has come out right away. On one hand, I need to make a quick transition.” He continued, “The film is very interesting, with many intriguing parts, and I’m curious about how the audience will perceive it and how they will accept the changes. I think the movie will do well, and I hope it does well,” he added with a smile.
In a situation where some people claim the persona of Yang Kwan-sik from ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ and remarks like “Kwan-sik disease” are arising, Park Hae-jun commented on the intense popularity, saying, “I have no worries. I think it’s a grateful work that allows me to quickly transition and show ‘I had this side too?’ rather than staying in that character. I’m currently filming another project as well. Being able to showcase different characters is a great thing.”
He also said, “These days, there are thoughts among men about being treated like this at home. They deliberately say things like, ‘I didn’t even discuss this with my wife before coming out.’ There was a time when bragging about not having to deal with things and being served a seven-course meal at home was a thing. Now, living like Kwan-sik is considered a bragging point.”
However, Park Hae-jun referred to his wife, Oh Yu-jin, mentioning, “I wanted to talk like that too, but I was a quiet person. I want to speak like ‘Hak-ssi’ but feel the need to follow how my father did when I was young, though I realize that living like that is not the way. So much has changed. Actually, at home, I hear from my wife that ‘oppa is quite close to Kwan-sik.’ There are also not many opportunities to go out, and I enjoy being with the kids. I poke around asking if I can help with anything in the kitchen. Just saying I’ll help is funny; it’s a joint effort. I feel bad for not being around much due to work outside and grateful that she looks after the kids on her own,” he said with a laugh.
He also noted, “I think I might have a bit of Kwan-sik disease myself. As a family-oriented person, I might be over 50% family-oriented. I’m not sure if this is Kwan-sik disease, but my wife said it’s close to 50-70%. Watching the drama probably intensified that feeling,” he added awkwardly.
‘YADANG: The Snitch’ is set to be released on the 16th.
