Starship's giant global project 'Debut's Plan,' showcasing the debut process of a new boy group set to be unveiled this year, has heralded the birth of a complete idol with acting skills through the youth drama 'ImPerfect Game.'
In the 'Debut's Plan: 'ImPerfect Game' | NewKids Drama' released on the New Kids on the Starship YouTube channel on the night of the 13th, the fourth plan 'Expression Evaluation' showcased the youth drama created by Miyata Haru, Park Won-bin, Baek Jun-hyuk, Seok Jun, Jang Gyu-hyun, Jang Yong-hoon, and Choo Yu-chan, all selected in the casting audition for the drama 'ImPerfect Game.'
The drama 'ImPerfect Game' depicts the story of friends and baseball team members Kang Han-il (played by Park Won-bin), Baek Hoon (played by Jang Yong-hoon), and Song Woo-bin (played by Seok Jun), who, after a quarrel leads to Kang Han-il getting injured and quitting baseball, are scattered but start playing baseball again with the goal of winning the National High School Baseball Championship and genuinely reconcile while overcoming their imperfect state and growing up.
Starship showcased a remarkable scale of directly producing a youth drama that is completely comparable in quality to existing K-dramas, with the help of director Kang Min-goo from the K-drama 'Itaewon Class' and writer Jeong Soo-hyun, who penned the popular sitcom 'Nonstop 5' and the newly acclaimed drama 'KICKKICKKICKKICK.'
Park Won-bin, Seok Jun, and Jang Yong-hoon, along with Miyata Haru (playing Ohtani Choi), Baek Jun-hyuk (playing Nam Jae-hyuk), Jang Gyu-hyun (playing Choi Seon-ho), and Choo Yu-chan (playing Seo Jun-gi), the seven New Kids, elevated the immersion with their perfect portrayal of their characters, making it hard to believe they are not professional actors. Kim Min-jae (playing Gu Seung-jun), Kim Ji-yong (playing Lee Sang-hyun), and Park Jun-hwan (playing Kwak Ji-hoon) also contributed positively as they took on various roles, creating warmth for the good work.
The performances of the math teacher Kim Ah-young, who played the role of the advisor to the baseball team, and physical education teacher Eum Moon-seok, who helped with training and conditioning, acted as positive factors for the high-quality drama production. Additionally, the evaluation songs sung by the New Kids revealed in the 'Debut's Plan' evaluation and the O.S.T., which was specially produced for this drama and includes the voices of the New Kids, such as 'Battle Scar,' 'Letters as Diary,' and 'The Universe as It Is,' added to the completeness as a youth drama for the New Kids.
The performances of the New Kids drew enthusiastic responses and support from global K-pop fans. Comments praising the work included: 'Everything was perfect,' 'I didn't expect an audition program to create a drama lasting over an hour,' 'It was a more entertaining drama than expected,' and 'An idol who acts well, I can't wait for the debut.'
'EP.6 Episode,' set to be released on the 18th, is drawing interest as it forecasts the fifth plan 'Teamwork Evaluation.' It will portray the New Kids, who expressed 'mental breakdown' as they left for a teamwork camp and their challenges in filming a team performance video.
The second voting round for 'Debut's Plan' will take place until 10 a.m. on the 17th on the official site. Voting is allowed once a day, and it is possible to vote for a total of two New Kids each day.
