In 'Studying and Playing,' world-class baseball player Kim Byung-hyun was struck out by his fifth-grade son's 'love bomb' and caused laughter.
In the third episode of 'Studying and Playing,' which aired on the 14th on KBS2, a total of seven families participated in reverse empathy quizzes, featuring generation-integrated hosts Kang Ho-dong, Kim Ho-young, and Lee Soo-yeon, former major leaguer Kim Byung-hyun and his sons Kim Tae-yoon (fifth grade) and Kim Joo-seong (second grade), taekwondo gold medalist Lee Dae-hoon and his son Lee Ye-chan (first grade), actor Kim Jeong-tae and his son Kim Si-hyun (sixth grade), Baby Vox Live member Yang Eun-ji and her daughter Lee Ji-eum (second grade), actor Shin Hyun-joon and his sons Shin Min-joon (third grade) and Shin Ye-jun (first grade), broadcaster Hyun-young and her son Choi Tae-hyuk (second grade), and actor Lee Jun-hyuk and his daughter Lee Eun-seo (sixth grade).
The broadcast began warmly with a presentation from the families newly joining 'Studying and Playing,' showing their strengthened bonds through the reverse empathy quizzes. Among them, Hyun-young introduced herself as the mom who fell from being 'number one on the music chart' to the lowest rank in the family hierarchy, mentioning, “At that time, 'Sister’s Dream' surpassed Lee Hyo-ri on the music chart,” surprising everyone. Shin Hyun-joon expressed pride before physical education class, saying, “I entered Y University in '87 with a scholarship,” boosting the spirits of his sons Shin Min-joon and Shin Ye-jun. Additionally, Lee Jun-hyuk revealed his reason for appearing on 'Studying and Playing,' stating, "I came out despite my embarrassment because I do not have much time with my daughter. We need to share time to create topics for conversation," resonating with all the parents.
Meanwhile, the scenes of parents and children experiencing a reversal of roles through 'Studying and Playing' sparked laughter from the beginning. Unlike the parents, who were intensely competitive before the quiz began, the children were observed calmly watching their parents. To this, Shin Hyun-joon expressed confusion, asking, "Is the other side (the kids' seats) usually more composed?" Notably, Kim Byung-hyun was the focus after being hit by a bomb from his son Kim Tae-yoon, who said, "Dad doesn’t study or put in effort. He never told me to. I thought he wouldn’t listen even if he did." This evoked laughter by embodying the feelings of a parent raising a defiant child. Shortly after, during a warm-up mission where they had to do push-ups with their children on their backs, Kim Tae-yoon showed concern for his dad, who retired due to a shoulder injury, which created a heartwarming moment filled with paternal love.
As the quiz progressed, incorrect answers poured in, prompting the children to demand timeouts and rush to the parents' side. Despite this, Kim Byung-hyun's two sons remained seated, seemingly ignoring their 'incorrect answer manufacturing' dad, and one even exclaimed in frustration, "Dad, please study a bit!" Conversely, Shin Hyun-joon’s son Shin Min-joon drew attention as his father's mental coach when he briefly instructed, "I hope you do well calmly." However, without getting upset after witnessing his father's disappointing wrong answers, he comforted him by saying, "Dad, you don’t have to win. We just need to create good memories," providing a touching moment.
On that day, the quiz concluded with a tie for first place among Kim Jeong-tae, Lee Dae-hoon, and Hyun-young. Parents who burned their bodies to create fun memories with their children and the pure appearances of the children, who shed tears and snot under the undeniable parental love, brought great laughter and empathy until the end.
