Singer and actress Son Dam-bi has become a mother.
According to OSEN's coverage on the 11th, Son Dam-bi gave birth to her first daughter at a hospital in Seoul on this day. Both the mother and child are reported to be in good health, with her husband Lee Gyu-hyuk by her side.
Son Dam-bi married Lee Gyu-hyuk, who is a former national speed skater, in May 2022. They initially met on SBS's 'Kiss and Cry' in 2011 and dated for a year before parting ways, but they reconnected in December 2021 after 10 years.
Later, Son Dam-bi revealed via her YouTube channel 'Dambi Son' that she had started in vitro fertilization last June. After a failed first attempt, he began a second procedure, noting, "I hoped to conceive on the first try, but I didn't get too discouraged when it didn't happen. Considering my age, I had low expectations but felt upset. I think if both of us sincerely want it again, it might happen someday," and remarked, "I was not infertile, but considering my and my husband's age, we chose in vitro. I’m learning a lot from experiencing that you can fail on the first try even when you are not infertile. It’s not an easy path."
After enduring the hardships of countless injections and experiencing swelling and bruising, Son Dam-bi announced her successful pregnancy in September of the same year, receiving many congratulations. At the time, her agency Blitzway Studios stated, "Son Dam-bi has met a precious life. She and her family are focusing on prenatal education with great joy, and she is expected to give birth in April 2025. We ask for your blessings."
While appearing on TV Chosun's 'My Daddy and Me,' Son Dam-bi shared the moment she told her family about her pregnancy, which evoked emotion. Following that, she shared her preparations for childbirth through her 'Dambi Son' channel and social media.
In particular, the couple attracted attention by revealing a 3D ultrasound photo of their baby during a recent episode of SBS's 'My Little Old Boy.' The baby in the photo resembled Lee Gyu-hyuk, and Son Dam-bi joked, "When we were doing the 3D ultrasound, the doctor said it seemed like my husband had more facial features than I do. From that point on, I didn’t say a word," while Lee Gyu-hyuk added, "My wife's face darkened. My mother called and said the fortune teller said we would have a daughter who looks like the father. I wondered, 'What do we do about that?' Sadly, I became the sinner."
On the verge of childbirth, Son Dam-bi posted her last video before giving birth on the 2nd, saying, "Once the washing machine arrives, I will wash baby clothes and pack the birth bag, and then everything will be ready. After that, I will go give birth. I'm scared," sharing her nervous feelings. In that context, she welcomed her first daughter on the 11th, becoming a mother after three years of marriage.
In response, her agency Blitzway Entertainment issued an official statement, saying, "Son Dam-bi gave birth to her daughter this afternoon (the 11th). Both the mother and child are healthy, and they are currently resting with their family," adding, "We ask for many blessings and warm regards for Son Dam-bi's family as they welcome this precious new life."
