The hearing for the objection filed by the members of the group NewJeans against the court's ruling prohibiting independent activities ended after about 10 minutes.
The Seoul Central District Court Civil Agreement Division 50 (Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon) held a hearing at 2 p.m. on the 9th regarding the objection filed by five members of NewJeans against the injunction prohibiting ADOR's preservation of its agency status and the signing of advertising contracts.
The hearing on that day was held privately, unlike the injunction application hearing that allowed spectators last month, with only representatives from both sides present for about 15 minutes.
An attorney for ADOR noted to reporters after the hearing that each side expressed their opinions and concluded without any significant changes following the injunction decision.
The hearing was reportedly held privately at the request of the NewJeans members. An attorney for NewJeans did not provide any particular position.
Previously, on the 21st of last month, the Seoul Central District Court Civil Agreement Division 50 (Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon) accepted ADOR's injunction application against the five members of NewJeans for 'preservation of agency status and signing of advertising contracts' and issued a decision in favor of it.
According to the court’s ruling, the members are prohibited from engaging in entertainment activities independently (including through legal representatives) or through third parties without prior approval or consent from ADOR, making it difficult for the members to use their new name 'NJZ' or engage in independent activities.
In response to the ruling, ADOR said, “We deeply appreciate the wise judgment of the injunction court. Since ADOR has legally confirmed its status as NewJeans' agency, we will fulfill our responsibility in supporting the artists in the future.” However, NewJeans stated, “We respect the court's decision,” while also noting that “the decision does not fully consider the complete collapse of the members' trust in ADOR.”
Following this, the NewJeans members filed an objection to the court's decision and announced their suspension of activities.
