Popular BJ Seiya (real name Park Dae-se) has been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison amid allegations of collective drug administration.
According to the legal community on the 9th, the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Agreement Division 25 (Director General Ji Gwi-yeon) sentenced BJ Seiya to 3 years and 6 months in prison for charges under the Specific Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act related to narcotics. The court also ordered completion of a 40-hour drug addiction treatment program and a forfeiture of 153.16 million won.
On that day, the court noted to BJ Seiya, "You have frequently purchased and administered ketamine, ecstasy, and marijuana over a considerable period without significant restrictions, showing undeniable antisocial indicators."
Furthermore, the court pointed out that "You have regularly instructed and requested individuals in professional relationships who are in a position difficult to refuse to purchase narcotics, frequently exposing yourself to narcotics. This ultimately resulted in involving them as accomplices," noting, "Your behavior has significant implications and is difficult to defend. Your dependency on narcotics appears very high, and the likelihood of reoffending is also considerable."
Although the 3 years and 6 months sentence in the first trial is quite severe, it is a reduction compared to the 6 years sought by prosecutors for BJ Seiya.
Regarding the reason for sentencing, the court stated, "You committed the offense in part to resolve long-standing sleep disorders and depression," and added, "You confess to your drug dependency and are making efforts to overcome it while strongly pledging not to reoffend. Your family and acquaintances are pleading for leniency."
Meanwhile, BJ Seiya is alleged to have purchased and administered narcotics worth 150 million won, including ketamine, ecstasy, and marijuana from June 2021 to August 2023. In 2023, he is also accused of receiving narcotics from the gang member turned YouTuber Kim Gang-pae and administering them multiple times at his home with acquaintances.
Subsequently, the police applied for an arrest warrant for BJ Seiya, and the Seoul Central District Court issued the warrant in September of last year, citing concerns of flight.
The police transferred BJ Seiya to the prosecution while he was in custody, and the prosecution indicted him while applying for a detention indictment, seeking a 6-year sentence during the concluding hearing.
The YouTuber who handed narcotics to BJ Seiya, who has a history of gang affiliation, was indicted on charges under the Specific Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act related to narcotics. He was sentenced to 3 years in the first trial in February and is undergoing second trial proceedings.
