Actor Park Young-kyu reminisced about his son, who passed away early.
On the 8th, Park Young-kyu, who returned in the sitcom "Villains Everywhere," appeared as a guest on KBS1's "Morning Yard."
That day, he named his son as the second of "three important people in my life." Park Young-kyu's son died suddenly in a motorcycle accident in the United States at the young age of 21 in 2004.
When his son was mentioned, Park Young-kyu said, "When that topic comes up, I really don't want to talk about it," adding, "Hearing this news was so heartbreaking."
Lee Kwang-ki, who shares the same pain, said, "'Jeong Do-jeon' was the first project we did together, and as soon as we met, we held hands and talked about what you just said, which helped me a lot. I am very grateful."
Park Young-kyu recalled, "At that time, I was practically a wreck for 5 or 6 years, doing nothing and living in Vancouver. The reason I started broadcasting again is that one day I thought, 'I can't live like this.' I didn't want to be an embarrassing dad to my son in heaven."
He said, "My son always said that. He told me not to do anything but act. Even as a child, he understood. He thought I would fail if I started a business. So, I decided to act again like my son said. When I received the award for 'Jeong Do-jeon,' I said that to my son in heaven. I want to live without any embarrassment to my son in heaven. I worked hard so that I could become a shining person, so my son would see me from heaven and tell me to come quickly. That's how I feel."
In particular, Park Young-kyu spoke about his son's grave, saying, "I wanted to build a columbarium for my son, but he lived in a small cramped room as a child. My dream was to let my son live in a big house, but I feel like I couldn't fulfill that. So, I bought a 1,000 square meter piece of land so my son can play in a spacious yard. I ask every time I go, 'Did you have fun? Dad is here.'"
