Actress Shin Min-a presented a fresh new look.
On the 4th, Netflix's 'Karma,' heralding the birth of this year's hottest spicy crime thriller, was released. Before its release, 'Karma,' which shone as Shin Min-a's first genre piece in three years, is a crime thriller depicting the intertwined stories of six individuals trapped in a karmic connection.
In the series, Shin Min-a creates a new character as a surgeon named 'Juyun,' who lives with a lifelong trauma. Unlike the visuals Shin Min-a has shown in various works, she accurately captured the character's traits with Juyun's expressionless face and dry tone, radiating a strong presence as a fundamental element of the narrative.
The character Juyun, played by Shin Min-a, is an ordinary university hospital doctor who lives life at a lukewarm temperature, neither hot nor passionate. One day, they encounter an unidentified full-body burn patient and, upon hearing the patient's name, confront the wounds created by past events, magnifying feelings of anxiety and a desire for revenge.
Unlike people in other works who have been hurt, Shin Min-a moved the audience's hearts with a portrayal of someone facing perhaps a realistic trauma. Particularly, Juyun, who suffers from trauma due to past events, displays a deep pain that prevents revealing their scars even to the ones they love, evoking sympathy.
In the latter part of the series, Juyun approached Park Jae-young with a knife to exact revenge for the pain inflicted upon them. However, upon seeing Park's ruined appearance due to burns, Juyun made the most human choice and refrained from taking revenge, which leads them to walk away from the past and cut off the complex karmic ties in a different manner, prompting viewers to cheer for Juyun's life.
In this way, Shin Min-a carefully depicted the emotional line of the loneliest and most painful character in 'Karma.' They showcased a range of emotions, from the engulfing anxiety and fear to moments of expressing anger, adjusting fine tremors in the pupils and variations in breathing to deliver a passionate performance.
Meanwhile, 'Karma,' featuring Shin Min-a, is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
