The production crew of "Kian’s Bizarre B&B" confidently previewed the show's enjoyment.

On the 8th, the production presentation for Netflix's "Kian’s Bizarre B&B" Part 1 "Early Check-in" took place at the Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul. The event was hosted by Park Kyung-rim, with directors Jung Hyo-min, Lee So-min, and Hwang Yoon-seo in attendance.

The "Kian’s Bizarre B&B" that is being unveiled that day is an innovative variety show where Kian84, Jin, and Ji Ye-eun host guests with a variety of unexpected experiences at the charming B&B on Ulleungdo Island. While there are things that did not come to mind, viewers are expected to experience unpredictable laughter and enjoyment from things they couldn't imagine. Especially, director Jung Hyo-min, who pioneered the guesthouse variety genre through "Hyori's Bed and Breakfast," and writer Yoon Shin-hye, along with Kian84, who possesses raw honesty, have come together to create an unpredictable guesthouse "Kianjang" with laughter, emotion, empathy, and fantasy.

Director Jung Hyo-min noted about "Kian’s Bizarre B&B," "I think I did a program called 'Hyori's Bed and Breakfast' around 2018. Since then, I have been working with writer Yoon Shin-hye, and when we were planning, we sometimes talked about what we could do if we made a guesthouse variety show in a modern version. The issue I always ran into was that 'Hyori's Bed and Breakfast' was with remarkable people, so there are aspects where the thoughts, mindset, and philosophy of the MC or main guests are revealed. I wondered if it would ever be more fun than 'Hyori's Bed and Breakfast' with any guest, and it just made sense to me."

He continued, "The initial planning for this program was in the fall of the year before last. Right before Kian received the Daesang, when he was becoming popular, we thought, could it be a program if we try with Kian? That question became a curiosity that everyone felt similarly. If it happens, it will be a program that flows differently from existing guesthouses. If it flows into the concerns, it will just become 'bizarre.' I was worried because I did not know Kian, and around that time, he had begun to challenge himself in a marathon, which became a hot topic. From what I saw, even though I didn't know him well, I felt that he wasn't just bizarre; he had a sense of responsibility. I thought that if it were him, he could create a show where everyone becomes happy without just ending with 'bizarre,' and that was where it all started."

Hwang Yoon-seo, the director, explained the unique aspects of "Kian’s Bizarre B&B" compared to other guesthouse shows, saying, "Ultimately, the lodging genre should cast individuals who can operate it well. However, we invited Kian, who seems the least suited for lodging, which is the biggest point. Moreover, Kian was the one who directly designed the house, which seems to be the first attempt. There are elements inside like a bell and climbing features that are not easily accessible, which also sets us apart. These are things that you wouldn’t experience anywhere else."

Regarding the behind-the-scenes of "Kianjang," which started from Kian84's sketch, Hwang noted, "We thought that trying to replicate the drawing could lead to dangerous situations, so our first principle was to create a safe house. Various contingency plans were set in place, and the production crew even conducted safety simulations. Before filming, the crew laid down in the house, cooked meals, and tried everything to ensure safety." He added, "Particularly, as soon as I saw the drawing, I thought that in order for things to unfold, we must enter the house, but it seemed impossible to enter. The height was also 3.8 meters. I thought that it might not be possible even to get into the program. When the initial cast struggled to enter, I thought it would be a disaster. It was the most inefficient house in the world. As we gradually became more efficient, I began to feel that there was something good here, focusing more on inefficiency and realizing I had become immersed in it."

Lee So-min, the director, said, "In my opinion, while I personally wouldn’t want to go, I think at first others might feel curious about those who do go, and that won’t be exclusive to us." She laughed, adding, "The point we focused on was realizing Kian84's imagination. We hoped that the completed Kianjang would be highly synchronized with the initial sketch. For the behind-the-scenes, we had contacted the art director beforehand. They have worked on many beautiful productions like 'Yoon's Kitchen.' When we showed them the sketch, they said, 'This is a house that experts could never even imagine, one they wouldn't do. Just realizing it is a new challenge for me,' and they gladly participated. I am grateful that it came out with a higher synchronization rate than expected."

Additionally, Director Jung stated, "If we organize the specifically drawn images, it would become an adventure that Kian initiated. Since he designed it, the question became what would be done with it. We are here to build as he imagined, and we also expected this degree. We hoped that he would recognize the challenges himself and create stories as he resolved them with the staff. In fact, such events have unfolded long.", adding, "Honestly, this isn’t typical Netflix tone, right? It’s a huge project for Netflix, and we went all the way to far Ulleungdo to implement something quite bizarre using a sizable budget. I thought this bizarreness could indeed be something romantic."

Hwang mentioned the guests who would visit Kianjang, saying, "Kian has often expressed a strong interest in youth. He has mentioned wanting to meet youth, and we have also reflected on the meaning of youth. Therefore, we aimed to invite individuals that would blend best with youth. We considered who could harmonize well with Kian as the central point of our casting." Director Jung also noted, "Even if Kian goes through trial and error, is there anything more youthful than doing something, regretting it, and fixing it? We wanted to meet individuals like that. Perhaps the guests who will be seen in the program won't be limited by age but will represent a variety of meanings of youth. Watching that chemistry build could also be another point of interest in the viewing experience of Kianjang."

Finally, Director Jung Hyo-min said, "Unfortunately, it seems this program will inevitably draw attention to Kian. In the context of entertainment, Kian occupies a very unique position. He has grown over about 10 years, starting with smaller projects. There may have been people who liked Kian less, but he has developed into a beloved character, and someone who has captured the grand award is a rare asset in the entertainment industry. It seems everyone is looking forward to another representative work from Kian, and I hope our program becomes another one of his representative works." Director Lee So-min stated, "The footage released this week will feature Kian's bizarre Kianjang as the protagonist, but as the show progresses, viewers will see him growing into the owner, gradually adapting to the house. It will definitely offer a different kind of fun, so I ask everyone to continue watching it through to the end." Hwang Yoon-seo also requested, "There will be a variety of guests featured alongside, leading to many entertaining moments. So please enjoy it to the fullest to the end."

"Kian’s Bizarre B&B" will exclusively premiere on Netflix starting April 8. A total of nine episodes will be released over three weeks, beginning with three episodes in the first week, followed by three episodes each subsequent week.
