In 'The Jeon Hyun-moo Project 2', Jeon Hyun-moo expressed envy towards newlywed Kim Jong-min's love story, making everyone laugh.
In the 24th episode of the real street food documentary 'The Jeon Hyun-moo Project 2', which aired on MBN and Channel S on the afternoon of 4th, Jeon Hyun-moo and Kwak Tube (Kwak Jun-bin), who first went on an all-location shoot in Japan, supported newlywed Kim Jong-min, who is getting married on the 20th, and Director General Matsuda, a 'Japan expert' with 1.2 million YouTube subscribers, as they explored dining spots in the small Japanese city of Tokushima. They presented viewers with a diverse dining itinerary in Tokushima by enjoying the regionally distinctive 'pickled seaweed udon', a sushi restaurant with a 62-year tradition, and a sake brewery with a 220-year history.
On the first night in Tokushima, Jeon Hyun-moo, Kwak Tube, and Kim Jong-min entered into a 'late-night snack battle' where they scattered to bring back Japanese street snacks. However, whereas Jeon Hyun-moo was rejected at every restaurant he approached, Kim Jong-min successfully took out Japanese gyoza and takoyaki. At the same time, self-proclaimed 'convenience store expert' Kwak Tube stopped by a convenience store and gathered a variety of 'hot items'. Moments later, all three enjoyed their late-night snacks, which included grilled fish, red sea bream bread, spicy ramen, and alcohol recommended by Director General Matsuda, at the budget-friendly accommodation Kwak Tube had 'picked'. During this time, Kim Jong-min handed over his wedding invitation, which caught attention as it was inscribed with the poem 'If I Were' by Hermann Hesse. Jeon Hyun-moo asked, "How did you first meet your bride-to-be?" and Kim Jong-min shared, "A friend suddenly told me to come out briefly. I went out that day and saw her for the first time," unfolding the story of their first meeting. In response, Jeon Hyun-moo commented, "If you knew her, waiting is a sign of attraction," and Kim Jong-min shared, "She said I was cute. So, I asked for her contact information," relaying the excitement from that time.
Kim Jong-min also expressed affection for his bride-to-be, saying, "She is wise and does not do what I dislike." He particularly boasted, "I have a tendency to be indecisive, but she said, 'I love you nevertheless.'" Hearing this, Jeon Hyun-moo remarked, "That's impressive. It's not 'therefore' I love you, but 'nevertheless'... I really like that phrase," expressing envy. The production team then asked, "Have you never heard that before?" to which Jeon Hyun-moo replied, "I haven't heard it. I am looking for 'nevertheless,'" answering earnestly and bringing laughter. He candidly confessed, "I have recently suffered a significant blow. My lifelong bachelor friends Cho Sae-ho and Kim Jong-min are getting married, so while I congratulate them, it feels like a punch to the gut."
The next morning, they chose 'udon', a representative Japanese dish, as their first meal on the second day of the food trip in the cozy neighborhood of Naruto City. The three received a menu that was only in Japanese at a restaurant with a '90-year tradition,' and when asked to make an impression as a 'smart guy', Kim Jong-min completed his order with just one phrase, "Sugoi (great)?", turning the scene upside down. Moments later, they received a table filled with dishes, including Naruto udon, wakame (pickled seaweed) udon, bukkake (cold) udon, and fried squid, showcasing an impressive display of noodles. After filling up on udon, Jeon Hyun-moo exclaimed, "Next, let's go to a sushi restaurant recommended by the udon shop owner, run by an octogenarian couple," where they ordered 'Omakase for three,' and the 'sushi master' who has maintained the restaurant for 62 years prepared sushi on the spot.
After finishing sushi, Jeon Hyun-moo, who parted ways with Kim Jong-min, mentioned, "I have another food friend," referring to Director General Matsuda, who lives in Osaka. Matsuda, upon appearing, stated, "The place we are going to now is a sake brewery that is 220 years old. I've already received filming cooperation. Here, you can enjoy fresh sake that can only be tasted here," exuding a strong 'food expert' vibe. They proceeded to a brewery that has been producing sake since 1804, where they tasted various kinds of alcohol. The 'sake newbies' Jeon Hyun-moo and Kwak Tube had a laugh after tasting the fresh sake mentioned by Matsuda and having a coughing fit.
While waiting for the side dishes after tasting, Director General Matsuda revealed, "While watching 'The Jeon Hyun-moo Project,' I wondered, 'How can that food be eaten without a drink?'" Jeon Hyun-moo retorted, "(My foodie mentor) Shin Dong-yeop also always says that. But for me, zero cola is the best pairing," devastatingly making the scene laugh. Nonetheless, Matsuda suggested, "Let's have a drink before the food comes," to which Jeon Hyun-moo replied, "You really felt like a Director General just now." Kwak Tube chimed in, "He's a real office worker," and Jeon Hyun-moo expressed shock, saying, "I thought he was a side character. I assumed he was either a YouTuber or a comedian." Immediately after, a carpaccio made from Naruto sea bream was served as the side dish, and the three enjoyed the luxurious side dish and drink slowly.
Next, Director General Matsuda stated, "I went to a place last night that I visited first. It was so delicious," activating his 'Matsuda Project' mode. What place he took them to and how Jeon Hyun-moo and Kwak Tube, who finished the Tokushima food trip, showed up in Jeonju, known as the 'City of Gentlemen', will be revealed in the 'The Jeon Hyun-moo Project 2' airing on the afternoon of the 11th at 9:10 p.m.
