Broadcaster Kim So-young recalled the time she left her job as an announcer to start a business.
Kim recently had a moment to communicate with fans through social media.
On this day, Kim was asked by a fan, "How much capital did you gather before starting your business?" and she explained, "When I first opened the bookstore, my retirement pay from MBC was about 30 million won. I entered the cheapest building for monthly rent without a deposit, bought the furniture second-hand, or made it directly with a carpenter.
Kim said, "At first, I couldn't even order a few books. When you don't have money, starting small and safely is also fine. You can save little by little and grow it more."
She continued, "Since the first store in Danginri was doing well, we quickly opened the Wirye store. One day, while working in a corner, some people said, 'Of course, her husband must have set this up for her.' That's not true." She added, "At that time, I felt that I was lacking to be seen as a businessperson and my pride was hurt. Now, it's all a memory."
In particular, Kim revealed to a fan who predicted a 'huge retirement pay,' "It was small and cute. I think being frugal and cautious in starting a business helps to recognize the value of the money being invested now and brings humility."
Meanwhile, Kim So-young and Oh Sang-jin developed their relationship from a senior-junior dynamic at MBC to a romantic one, dating for two years before holding their wedding in April 2017. Kim additionally left MBC in 2017 and is currently active as a freelance broadcaster, managing various businesses, including a bookstore and curation shop.
