Actress Moon So-ri shared her daughter's cute reaction upon encountering "When Life Gives You Tangerines."
On the morning of 2nd, an interview with the lead actress Moon So-ri of the Netflix series "When Life Gives You Tangerines" took place at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Grand Ballroom in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The Netflix original series "When Life Gives You Tangerines" unfolds the life of 'the feisty rebel' Ae-soon (played by IU) and 'the clueless iron' Kwan-sik (played by Park Bo-gum), who were born in Jeju in the 1960s, across the four seasons filled with adventure. Writer lim Sang-chun, known for her unique storytelling that resonates with viewers in works such as "When the Camellia Blooms" and "Fight for My Way," collaborated with director Kim Won-suk, who has provided empathy, comfort, and support through works like "My Mister," "Signal," and "Misaeng." The production cost was approximately 600 billion won. IU, Park Bo-gum, Moon So-ri, Park Hae-joon, Yeo Hyun-ran, Oh Jung-se, Kim Sun-ho, Lee Joon-young, and Kang Mal-geum gave outstanding performances.
The striking programming was noticeable compared to Netflix's previous practice of releasing all episodes at once. Starting with the first act (episodes 1–4) featuring spring, which was released on the 7th of last month, a total of 16 episodes were presented weekly in four batches of four episodes. In the third week after its release, it topped the global Top 10 series (non-English) category and recorded 6,000,000 view counts (the value obtained by dividing the total runtime of the work by view time) after the fourth act was released, ranking it third in the global Top 10 series (non-English) category.
Moon So-ri portrayed Ae-soon from her middle age to old age, anchoring the work. In fact, in order to achieve a high level of synchronization with young Ae-soon played by IU, she explored IU's music and videos before filming to match her speech and breathing. Moreover, she paid attention to the external aspects by replicating IU's signature charm points through makeup to enhance their synchronization.
After working with IU this time, Moon So-ri noted her daughter's reaction was surprising, saying, "She was very proud and amazed. She said, 'You had so many people coming to our house since you were young, so it's even more surprising to hear that.' It's really amazing to hear that she's known a celebrity since she was little, and now she's talking about how her mom met Jonathan. She asked why I didn’t tell her. (Laughs) I said, 'It's my job to do that every day; do I have to report my schedule to you every time?' It's not like I changed jobs."
She continued, "She said, 'When Kang Dong-won came to our house, and (Song) Hye-kyo unnie bought me a doll, I was too young to realize.' Now she says she feels it." She added, "It’s amazing to her that her mom filmed a drama with IU and that her favorite idol group Boy Next Door called my mom after watching 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' She says, 'It's amazing, I'm glad.'"
So what kind of daughter and mother is Moon So-ri? She said, "I think I should ask my daughter what kind of mom I am. (Laughs) I'm just an ordinary mom. According to my mom, she's been a dependable daughter, and I think I've always tried to be that way. I was very frail and sick when I was young, so I was a daughter that would cause worry. There's nothing more upsetting for a parent than that. I thought I didn't neglect my duty as a daughter while growing up, but in that regard, I did. After raising my own child, I think the best filial piety is for my daughter to be healthy."
