In 'Solo, Because' Choi Daniel shared for the first time about losing his mother early in adulthood and growing up in a single-parent family.
On the broadcast of SBS Plus 'Solo, Because' on the 1st, Hwang Jung-eum and Choi Daniel were seen meeting for the first time since 'High Kick.'
On that day, Hwang Jung-eum said, "He is the only male friend with whom I can discuss difficult matters," and held a 'High Kick reunion' with Choi Daniel.
While discussing various topics, Choi Daniel honestly shared that Hwang Jung-eum grew up in a divorced family. He confessed for the first time about his family history, stating, "I also lost my mother early and lived with my father and brother." Choi Daniel mentioned, "My mother passed away when I was 4 years old, and I don't remember much about her," adding, "There was an implicit absence of motherhood, and I couldn't relate to the concept of motherhood."
Choi Daniel said, "My father felt pity about me growing up without my mother," and noted, "Even if the kimchi stew wasn't delicious, I appreciated my father's love in cooking for me, making an effort to fill the void left by my mother after work." He reflected, "Looking back now, my father's image is affectionate," to which Hwang Jung-eum responded, "You have grown up well because you felt that love."
Choi Daniel recalled, "In elementary school, I got a 0 on a dictation, and it was funny to me, but my father also said that getting a 0 was more difficult than getting a 100, and he actually bought me toys," bringing up a memorable experience. He added, "I didn't realize it then, but I have come to understand my father's love, which now remains in my memory," and remarked, "Even as I grew older, I never thought I was unhappy due to any lack. While it may be uncomfortable, unhappiness and discomfort are different," attributing this understanding to the warm memories of his father filling in the absence of his mother.
In response, Hwang Jung-eum also expressed agreement, saying, "Whether from a single-parent family or a two-parent family, the source of strength is parents; they are a powerful force that keeps us alive," and observed, looking at the two of them, that "Both have become wonderful adults."
