Actor Kim Soo-hyun has completely denied allegations that he dated the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. Meanwhile, a heated debate has arisen regarding the KakaoTalk analysis results he presented as evidence.
On the 31st, a press conference with Kim Soo-hyun and law firm LK Partner was held at the Stanford Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul. During the press conference, which took place without a separate Q&A session, Kim Soo-hyun directly denied the allegations surrounding him and appealed with tears.
So far, the family of the late Kim Sae-ron has claimed through the YouTube channel "Garosero Research Institute" (hereafter referred to as "Gaseyeon") that Kim Soo-hyun dated her for six years starting from 2015 when she was a minor. Along with this, they released pictures of their physical contact and letters exchanged during her minor years as evidence.
On the other hand, Kim Soo-hyun, who initially denied the relationship with Kim Sae-ron, clarified that he dated her from the summer of 2019, after she became an adult, until the fall of 2020. At the press conference, Kim Soo-hyun said, "The late Kim and I dated for about a year more than four years ago, before the airing of 'Queen of Tears'; I did not date her while she was a minor."
He also pointed out errors in the KakaoTalk contents disclosed by the family, stating, "The individuals conversing with the late Kim in the 2016 and 2018 KakaoTalk messages are different people. To prove this fact, I submitted the KakaoTalk exchanges from 2016, 2018, and this year with acquaintances to a verification agency that scientifically analyzes statements. The conclusion was that the individuals from 2016 and 2018 were not the same person during that period."
In the process, Kim Soo-hyun revealed some results from an author identification analysis requested from a statement analysis center. Among the contents, it was emphasized that it could be interpreted as "not written by the same person at a 92% confidence level." In this regard, Kim Soo-hyun expressed, "The false testimonies and fake evidence continue under the pretext that I dated the late Kim; I will undergo thorough verification through the investigation agency for all evidence presented by the family, just as I’m undergoing verification for the KakaoTalk. If the evidence held by the family is truly real, I request that they submit all materials to the investigation agency for verification through legal procedures."
However, after the contents of the analysis results were disclosed, voices questioning the results emerged in online communities. In the analysis overview, it was noted that "When it is determined that the message writers from 2016 and 2018 are not the same person, the possibility that this judgment is incorrect is 8%. Therefore, it can be interpreted as not being written by the same person at a 92% confidence level," indicating that the figure of 92% itself suggests low confidence in the results.
In particular, looking at the comprehensive conclusion section, it states, "This analysis targets KakaoTalk conversation messages from 2016, 2018, and 2025, and analyzes the grammatical characteristics, qualitative assessments (stylistic expression psychological traits), and quantitative evaluations (statistical differences in personal language indicators) to assess whether the message writer (male) is the same person. Given the limited sample size (text amount constraint), there are limits in interpretation. If analyzed with a larger amount of data, the results could change; thus, it clarifies that this analysis result is based solely on the given data."
This implies that if the sample size increases, the conclusion could reveal that the message writers from 2016 and 2018 are the same person. Moreover, the center also judged that "there is a high likelihood that the writers of 2018 and 2025 were the same person." This suggests that the person who exchanged messages with the late Kim Sae-ron in 2018 is likely to be Kim Soo-hyun. In 2018, the late Kim Sae-ron was still a minor at 17, which contradicts Kim Soo-hyun’s claims of having dated her from 2019.
Meanwhile, some voices have raised claims that the institution analyzing the KakaoTalk contents lacks credibility. This is due to the fact that the statement analyst who analyzed Kim Soo-hyun's messages previously predicted that an "intelligent person in their mid-40s" was behind the messages of Jo Joo-bin from the 'Nth Room' case. Jo Joo-bin was a man in his 20s. Given that it is a private company rather than a state institution, people have responded that it is difficult to deem the KakaoTalk presented by the late Kim's family as "fake evidence" based solely on the KakaoTalk analysis results presented by Kim Soo-hyun.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun disclosed his intention to file a lawsuit against the family of the late Kim Sae-ron and the Gaseyeon side during the press conference. Attorney Kim Jong-bok from law firm LK Partner stated, "Today, we have submitted a lawsuit against the family members and an unidentified individual who claims to be an aunt, as well as the operator of Gaseyeon, for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, attaching documents such as the emotional report mentioned by Kim Soo-hyun. Additionally, we submitted a lawsuit seeking damages totaling 12 billion won to the Seoul Central District Court today."
