(Following Interview 1) Actor Park Hae-joon, who performed passionately in "When Life Gives You Tangerines," shared his thoughts on working with singer and junior actor IU (Lee Ji-eun).
Netflix conducted an interview with Park Hae-joon, who starred in the original series "When Life Gives You Tangerines" (written by Im Sang-chun, directed by Kim Won-seok) at a hotel located in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 1st.
"When Life Gives You Tangerines" is a Netflix series that depicts the adventurous life of Aesoon, a rebellious girl born in Jeju, and Gwansik, a man full of stories. Park Hae-joon plays the middle-aged and elderly Gwansik.
IU has played both the young Aesoon and her daughter, Geum-myung. Regarding his chemistry with IU, he noted, "When I worked with my senior Moon So-ri and Geum-myung (IU), I found them somewhat pitiable and thought, do I have to take care of them more? I think I acted with that kind of mindset. Even on set, if Geum-myung seemed sad, I would joke around a bit. When Aesoon (Moon So-ri) was having a hard time, I would cheer her up and act alongside her. It made me feel so honored. In a way, I was the one who felt uncomfortable. There were things I didn’t know how to handle."
In reality, IU is known for distributing "holiday gifts" to her close seniors and colleagues in the entertainment industry. Did Park Hae-joon receive one? He said, "IU sent me Hanwoo during the holidays," surprising everyone.
He remarked, "Honestly, I shouldn’t have been like that during filming, but I was really direct. I said what I wanted to say, and after filming, she asked if I could come to her concert. I used to only watch her concerts from a distance and was shocked when I went to one. I realized that the person I saw sleeping in a corner was not the same as the one who filled the Olympic Gymnasium and sang for four hours. It was amazing and incredible to see that. I felt like she was not human."
He added, "From that point on, things started to get difficult. I started saying, 'Hey, can I get an autograph?' It became a little awkward. But I was glad I got to know her in a relaxed way. I might have felt pressured if I had seen her concerts before filming, but I was fortunate to only see IU from dramas or movies while working on the set."
Meanwhile, Park Hae-joon said, "I felt comfortable acting with Eun-myeong (Kang Yoo-seok) and Busaeng-gil (Choi Dae-hoon). It wasn't just acting; I was able to relax and treat them casually because they were male juniors. I guess that’s why I joked around with them. Otherwise, I would act gently, especially in front of my daughter."
