Actor Gong Myoung previewed a distinct portrayal of the grim reaper, different from those of Jung Woo and Lee Dong Wook.
On the morning of the 1st, the production presentation for the TVING original series 'Way Back Love' was held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Hye Young, actors Gong Myoung, Kim Min Ha, Jung Geon Joo, and Oh Woo Ri attended the event and shared their stories.
'Way Back Love,' based on the novel of the same name by author Seo Eun Chae, is a fantasy romance about a young person named Hee Wan (played by Kim Min Ha) who turns their back on the world and meets their first love, Ram Woo (played by Gong Myoung), who appears as a grim reaper.
In the drama, Gong Myoung plays the role of Ram Woo, who returns as the grim reaper. When asked about the differences from grim reaper characters presented by actors like Jung Woo and Lee Dong Wook in previous works, he explained, "I prepared by referencing many characters that senior actors have portrayed. Initially, I discussed with the director what aspects to take, and we considered how to present his appearance, such as in costume and hair, as a grim reaper, while referencing the characters that seniors have portrayed."
He continued, "We researched how to give a different impression, since the grim reaper character in 'Way Back Love' is different from those seen by many. That aspect was thoroughly explored in the script and with the director. I think Ram Woo exists within that boundary, not as a grim reaper but as Ram Woo. I tried to delve deeper while reading the script, and I believe I communicated a lot with the director to find the right approach."
Director Kim Hye Young remarked, "Ram Woo is a grim reaper who provides opportunities. If we think of a grim reaper in a fantasy context as someone who says, 'You'll die soon; let’s go' or 'You must do this in the afterlife,' our work addresses unfulfilled memories, unfulfilled love, and the inability to turn back time. While I’m not sure how it would have been until now, the grim reaper in our story has a heart that offers opportunities for the future. "
'Way Back Love' is set to be released via TVING on the 3rd.
