A Korea-Japan co-produced drama is being born.

The drama 'Mamul' is the first work co-planned and produced by SLL and TV Asahi. The top-level production team of TV Asahi and SLL has completed the scenario based on the original story 'Son-gil' by writer Shin Eun-young, in collaboration with SLL's label Perfect Storm Film. They plan to create the work by sharing drama production experience and know-how from both Korea and Japan.

'H2 ~Days I Was with You~', 'Gossip #The Real OO She Wants to Know', 'After the Wife' and the remake of the Korean drama 'My Love from the Star' were scripted by Erika Seki, who was in charge of those productions. Additionally, Yusuke Taki, who produced Netflix and Disney+ content such as 'Three Ex-Husbands with Omameda and Wako,' 'Crazy Cruise,' and 'The Land of Chilseok,' and Takashi Ninomiya, who directed 'The Wife Whose Liver Was Stolen' and 'Die Lonely, My Dear Death,' are the directors. In particular, PD Jin-hyuk from 'Ok-ssi's Diary' and PD Choi Bo-yun are in charge of directing episodes 1 and 2 of 'Mamul,' challenging joint production beyond language and cultural barriers with a mixed Korean-Japanese team.

'Mamul' is a love thriller featuring a female lawyer with exceptional skills who falls into forbidden love after meeting a married man suspected of murder, with a storyline that intricately weaves the psychology of human love, desire, jealousy, and forgiveness. Kumiko Aso, who appeared in 'Omusubi' and 'Unknown,' is cast as the female lead, while Akihisa Shiono, known for 'Incompetent Takano' and 'Shining You,' takes on the male lead.

SLL signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with TV Asahi in May 2024 for mutual cooperation in the content business and has continued collaboration for joint planning and development of content. Based on this, TV Asahi also introduced the drama, based on the domestic drama 'SKY Castle' (Japanese name: スカイキャッスル), in Japan.

SLL's head of production, Park Jun-seo, noted, “The drama 'Mamul,' co-planned and produced by SLL and TV Asahi, will captivate Japanese viewers every Friday night with a tense development that follows the truth hidden behind the masks worn by the protagonists. As we begin co-producing 'Mamul,' we will create a foundation for long-term collaboration between Korea and Japan in content production and aim to discover new intellectual properties.”

Seiko Uchiyama, director and executive producer at TV Asahi, stated, “TV Asahi and SLL have continued to collaborate since the remakes of 'SKY Castle' and 'Itaewon Class,' and in the case of this drama 'Mamul,' excellent creators from both Korea and Japan have collaborated from the planning stage. I hope viewers enjoy the beautiful and stimulating story that penetrates human instincts created by the production teams of both countries.”

'Mamul' is set to premiere on April 18 (Friday) at 11:15 p.m. on TV Asahi.
