The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Cultural Center Association announced on the 11th that they have selected a total of 18 final support targets in the '2025 Cultural Center Specialization Support Project.'
In the 'Brand Planning Type' call for proposals, a total of 18 cultural centers (programs) applied. Eight centers were selected, including Chuncheon Puppet Theater (Gangwon), Ansan Cultural Arts Center (Gyeonggi), Gimhae Cultural Center (Gyeongnam), Hamyang Cultural Arts Center (Gyeongnam), Sacheon Cultural Arts Center (Gyeongnam), Sejong Arts Center (Sejong), Korean Sound Cultural Center (Jeonbuk), and Jeju Art Center (Jeju), which presented performances in areas such as theater, musicals, tradition, and music.
In the 'New Work Production Type' call for proposals, a total of 61 cultural centers (programs) applied, and 17 were selected through the first review in March. Funding for showcase production was also supported. Each cultural center will produce performances that will officially take the stage in the second half of this year.
These include a total of 10 locations, such as Guri Art Hall (Gyeonggi), Dasan Art Hall (Gyeonggi), Uijeongbu Arts Center (Gyeonggi), Eoul Art Center (Daegu), Daejeon Arts Center (Daejeon), Haeundae Cultural Center (Busan), Kkotbawi Cultural Center (Ulsan), Boseong County Cultural Arts Center (Jeonnam), Jeju Cultural Center (Jeju), and Jeungpyeong Cultural Center (Chungbuk).
A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official noted, "It is important to strengthen the planning and production capabilities of cultural centers, which are the hub of local cultural and arts distribution, and to expand cultural enjoyment for local residents through these centers. In this project, we will support the discovery of specialized representative programs in each region to establish a virtuous cycle of creation, production, distribution, and consumption, thereby enhancing the self-sustaining power of local cultural and arts."
