‘The Nice Guy’ Lee Dong-wook, Lee Sung-kyung, Park Hoon, Oh Na-ra, and Ryu Hye-young showcase a variety of character plays.
On the 18th (Friday), the team behind ‘The Nice Guy’ (directed by Song Hae-sung and Park Hong-soo, written by Kim Un-gyeong and Kim Hyo-seok, provided by SLL, produced by HYBE Media Corp. and High Ground) revealed on the 11th a colorful character poster featuring five characters: Park Seok-cheol (played by Lee Dong-wook), Kang Mi-young (played by Lee Sung-kyung), Kang Tae-hoon (played by Park Hoon), Park Seok-gyeong (played by Oh Na-ra), and Park Seok-hee (played by Ryu Hye-young), who dream of change amidst a tough reality.
‘The Nice Guy’ is an emotional noir that unfolds the story of Park Seok-cheol, the heir of a family of gangsters with unexpected purity, and his first love, Kang Mi-young, who dreams of becoming a singer. The intense love that these two individuals throw everything away for their precious ones, along with their journey to find dreams amidst harsh realities, provides a profound resonance with warm laughter.
Director Song Hae-sung, known for his delicate directorial skills in films such as ‘Paju,’ ‘The Aging Family,’ and ‘Our Happy Time,’ along with director Park Hong-soo of the drama ‘No Longer Human,’ heighten expectations. Above all, the synergy created by trusted actors Lee Dong-wook, Lee Sung-kyung, Park Hoon, Oh Na-ra, Ryu Hye-young, and Cheon Ho-jin draws keen anticipation.
The character poster released a week before the premiere stimulates curiosity with the portrayal of Park Seok-cheol, Kang Mi-young, Kang Tae-hoon, Park Seok-gyeong, and Park Seok-hee, who are struggling to find a better self amid the burdens of reality. The solitude of the gangster ‘Park Seok-cheol,’ who once wanted to be a poet, hints at the path he has taken. Park Seok-cheol, who unwillingly became a gangster for his livelihood, has persistently endured but finds himself in a fierce turmoil when he decides to turn his life around and fatefully reunites with his first love, Kang Mi-young.
The poignant gaze of ‘Kang Mi-young,’ who sings with sincerity, also catches attention. Despite being weighed down by the harsh reality and being plagued by stage fright, Kang Mi-young has never given up on her dream of becoming a singer. The phrase ‘I do not want to buy my dreams with someone else’s money’ raises curiosity about her story of taking steady steps towards her dreams, even if it is a bit slow, with the utmost sincerity.
The aura of ‘Kang Tae-hoon,’ the boss leading the rival construction company Samjun Construction that Park Seok-cheol is involved with, is also unique. Having been in the same organization as Park Seok-cheol long ago, he finds himself drawn to Kang Mi-young at first glance and is faced with a precarious love triangle with Park Seok-cheol.
The character poster of ‘Park Seok-gyeong,’ the troublemaker of the ‘Park Seok-cheol Family,’ is intriguing as well. After failing in marriage and business, Park Seok-gyeong dives into gambling, but ends up with more debts and finds herself led back home by her siblings.
The anxious expression on the face of ‘Park Seok-hee,’ the youngest sibling, suggests the changes coming into her life. A nurse, Park Seok-hee is known for her capable and upright character and is regarded as a pride of the family. However, a moment arises in her life when she too needs emergency measures.
Meanwhile, ‘The Nice Guy,’ which opens the JTBC Friday series, will premiere on the 18th (Friday) at 8:50 p.m., and will air two consecutive episodes every Friday, marking the start of the weekend for viewers.
