The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on Dec. 4 that it will hold the opening ceremony for the '2025 KWBL Wheelchair Basketball League' hosted by the Korean Wheelchair Basketball Federation at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Songpa District, Seoul, and that matches will take place until December 4.
This year marks the 11th edition of the 'Wheelchair Basketball League,' which has the longest history among domestic regular sports leagues for people with disabilities. It has contributed to expanding the base of disabled sports and improving the performance of athletes.
A total of six teams will participate in this league: Goyang Holte, Daegu Metropolitan City Hall, Mugunghwa Electronics, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Chuncheon Tigers, and Coway Blue Wheels. The league will have 45 regular season games held in seven gyms nationwide, culminating in playoffs to determine the final champion.
About 200 people will attend the opening ceremony, including officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Paralympic Committee (KPC), Korean Basketball Association for the Disabled, and representatives from the six participating teams. Following the ceremony, the Coway Blue Wheels, last year's champions, will face off against the Chuncheon Tigers, who finished second in the regular league, in the opening match.
