The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 27th that it will accept recommendations for candidates in four institutional sectors for the '2025 Sports Promotion Awards' to boost the morale of athletes and promote national sports.
The institutional sectors include ▲Sports Development Contributions ▲Korea Sports Awards ▲Sports Event Hosting Contributions ▲Korea Sports Industry Awards, totaling four categories.
First, the 'Sports Development Contributions' award is a recognition for individuals who have contributed to enhancing the status of sports and contributing to national development. This year, awards are planned for athletes and coaches who have won medals in international competitions such as the Olympics, Paralympics, and World Championships, as well as for those who have contributed to national sports development through talent discovery and cultivation, and hosting international events.
Sports organizations that are members of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and local sports councils should recommend candidates to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, while affiliated organizations and local branches registered with the Korean Paralympic Committee should recommend candidates to the Korean Paralympic Committee. Central administrative agencies, local governments, public institutions, and sports organizations and associations should recommend candidates to the Sports Policy Division and the Disabled Sports Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The deadline for candidate submission to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is June 30, and the submission schedule for the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and the Korean Paralympic Committee can be checked on each organization's website.
The 'Korea Sports Awards' recognizes individuals who have made contributions to the development of national sports as excellent athletes and those who have contributed to sports research, systems, and national sports promotion, awarding them with presidential commendations and commendations from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It is divided into nine categories: the Sports Award, Research Award, Coaching Award, Meritorious Service Award, Promotion Award, Disabled Athlete Award, Disabled Sports Award, Referee Award, and the Outstanding Parent of Athletes Award. Candidate recommendation documents should be submitted to the Sports Policy Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism by June 30.
The 'Sports Event Hosting Contributions' award is granted annually to individuals who have contributed to the hosting of national comprehensive sports competitions, national disabled sports competitions, national disabled student sports competitions, and the National Life Sports Festival. Recommendations for candidates for the National Sports Festival and life sports contributions are received by the Sports Promotion Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, while recommendations for candidates related to the national disabled sports competition and the National Life Sports Festival are received by the Disabled Sports Division.
Finally, the 'Korea Sports Industry Awards' has been awarded since 2005 to encourage individuals, organizations, and corporations that have significantly contributed to the development of the sports industry. It targets all areas of the sports industry, including facility, equipment, and service sectors, as well as related fields like sports science and sports law. Candidate recommendation documents are processed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Sports Industry Division.
Details regarding candidate recommendations, reviews, and award ceremonies for the 'Sports Event Hosting Contributions' and 'Korea Sports Industry Awards' will be announced separately in June.
The recipients of the 'Sports Development Contributions' and 'Korea Sports Awards' are expected to be determined through public verification of candidates, reviews by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Merit Review Committee, and qualification criteria verification by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, with the award ceremony planned for October 15, the Day of Sports.
