The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented a blueprint to expand the animation industry revenue to 1.9 trillion won by 2030. A specialized animation fund is also planned to be created for this purpose.

On the 24th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the '2025-2030 Basic Plan for the Promotion of the Animation Industry' at the 62nd National Policy Agenda Ministers' Meeting. The goal is to increase the animation industry's revenue, which was 1.1 trillion won in 2023, to 1.9 trillion won by 2030. During the same period, the export volume is targeted to grow from $12 million to $17 million, and the number of industry workers is expected to expand from 6,417 to 9,000.

The government selected key tasks including ▲enhancing industry vitality through increased investment ▲maximizing animation intellectual property (IP) value in response to changes in the media environment ▲revitalizing the cultural product market utilizing animation IP ▲strategic overseas expansion focused on the Chinese and Southeast Asian markets ▲expanding industry boundaries due to advancements in new technologies such as AI ▲creating a foundation for future growth through nurturing professional talent.

To expand investment in the animation industry, a specialized animation fund will be established with a scale of 20 billion won this year. The fund is planned to be expanded to a total of 150 billion won by 2029. Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo noted at the meeting, "We will create an animation specialized fund to focus investment on related small and medium-sized enterprises and venture companies, and actively support attracting investments from OTT (online video services), broadcasters, and venture capitalists."

The government also prepared a plan to attract foreign investment in the domestic animation industry by reimbursing part of the production costs upon meeting certain conditions for international co-productions. Additionally, systematic support for localization work, which is essential for exports, such as dubbing and subtitling, will be provided. Integrated marketing using overseas base institutions such as Korean cultural centers and promotion offices (42 locations) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and overseas business centers of the Korea Creative Content Agency (25 locations) will also be promoted.
