The works of 89 masters representing Western art, including Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso, are coming to Seoul.
The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts announced on the 9th that it will host 'From Monet to Andy Warhol' in collaboration with the cultural content company Gaudium Associates from May 16 to August 31 at the Sejong Center art museum.
This exhibition, where you can meet the masters of Western art history in one place, has recorded over 200,000 visitors after traveling through Gyeongju, Busan, and Jeju, and concludes in Seoul.
'From Monet to Andy Warhol,' taking place at the Sejong Center art museum, is a large-scale exhibition featuring 143 major collections from the Johannesburg Art Gallery, the national art museum of South Africa. Through the works of 89 masters representing Western art, such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol, visitors can explore the flow of art history.
In particular, it is characterized by the division of the main trends in art history over 400 years, from the 17th century Dutch Golden Age to 20th century modern art, into nine sections arranged by era. Visitors can also encounter works that show the intersection of South African artistic identity and European art.
The curator is Simona Bartolena, an Italian art historian and curator whose several works have been translated and published in Korea.
Special programs for visitors have also been prepared. Unique exhibition designs inspired by the characteristics of famous art museums will provide a special experience for visitors to enjoy not only the artworks but also the space itself. Free audio guides led by star docents like Kim Chan-yong and Shim Seong-a, as well as materials containing the exhibition artwork list, will also be provided. Special lectures related to the exhibition, including children's art education programs, will also be conducted.
An Ho-sang, president of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, noted that 'this exhibition is significant in that it provides an opportunity to appreciate the joy of art to visitors of various age groups, as well as to understand the flow of the times through art.'
