Seoul Eonnam Elementary School’s Eonnam Traditional Arts Troupe presents a performance combining the Vernal Play and Chwita at the Singapore Chingay Festival 2025.

The Seoul Eonnam Elementary School's permanent club "Eonnam Traditional Arts Troupe" successfully held Korean traditional arts at the "Singapore Chingay Festival 2025," it said on the 12th.

Thirty-seven members of the Eonnam Traditional Arts Troupe were invited to the celebration of Singapore's 60th anniversary of independence from July 7th to 10th, and they performed a show combining the Korean traditional art "Bunuhari" and "Chwita" at the Chingay Festival 2025, which also commemorated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Malaysia.

The Chingay Festival is a celebration where diverse traditional arts performances centered in Asia can be enjoyed. It has been continuously held in Singapore since 1973. In addition to local performers, overseas troupes from Korea, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam participate.

This year's festival was attended by high-ranking officials, including Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and all 54,000 seats were sold out early, making it more spectacular than ever.

Overseas performing troupes from various countries showcased their performances on a stage set up in the city center on the 9th, following two Chingay parades on the 7th and 8th. On this stage, the Eonnam Traditional Arts Troupe performed a show combining Bunuhari and Chwita, receiving a strong response from the audience. Unlike Kazakhstan, which had a national dance troupe, or Malaysia, which had a professional parade group, Korea was unique in being comprised mainly of amateur elementary school students, drawing greater attention.

On the 10th, the Eonnam Traditional Arts Troupe participated in a welcome party for all overseas performing troupes, showcasing "APT." by Rosé and promoting Korean Wave culture.

Park Haeng-ju, the principal who directed and conducted the performance, said, "I am very happy that our school's traditional arts troupe could showcase its work as a representative team of Korea at an international event, and I hope our country's groups participate in more international festivals and spread another aspect of Korean Wave culture."

Hong Jin-wook, the South Korean Ambassador to Singapore, said, "I would like to thank the Eonnam Traditional Arts Troupe for their hard work in representing Korea despite the hot weather."
